There is a need for enhanced disability awareness, representation, & advocacy in medical education & clinical practice. This session will provide ways to conceptualize and define disability, discuss health disparities that affect people with disabilities, and identify opportunities to address or mitigate ableism in the clinical workplace environment. Participants will be invited to exchange ideas about how to foster more inclusive environments, how to model disability inclusion in UME/GME, and how to serve as an ambassador of anti-ableism in medicine.

Target Audience

This session is open to all faculty, staff and trainees. 

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

1. Articulate the need for enhancing disability representation & inclusion in medicine.

2. Define ableism and provide examples of how ableism can manifest in clinical or training environments.

3. Identify ways to address or mitigate ableism in medical settings.

4. List strategies to promote authentic expression & disability inclusion among healthcare team members.
