This lecture provides medical professionals with clinical practice guidance on opioid use disorder assessment and treatment based on the 2022 CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Pain. Key topics include evaluating patients for opioid use disorder, the range of addiction treatment modalities and options for inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment, and how to access them in Rhode Island.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and residents and fellows in Rhode Island specializing in primary care, family medicine, general medicine, pediatrics and emergency medicine. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After participating in this educational initiative, the learner should be better able to:

• Explain how to evaluate a patient for opioid use disorder
• Understand the range of addiction treatment including modalities including medications and therapeutic approaches
• Describe the different options for inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment
• Recall how to access addiction treatment in Rhode Island

METHOD OF PARTICIPATION AND HOW TO RECEIVE CME CREDIT

There are no fees for participating in and receiving credit for this activity.

• Review the activity objectives, faculty information, and CME information prior to participating in the activity.
• Complete the pre-test
• View the CME presentation
• Complete the post-test
• Complete the CME activity evaluation in order to receive a credit certificate.
  • Credit claiming is available at the end of each module.
