2/27/25 - Academic Promotion of Clinician Educators
Thursday, February 27, 2025
5:30-7:00 pm
222 Richmond Street, Room 270
Refreshments will be provided
Overview
Academic clinician-educators who teach and lead programs often feel like they are handicapped in the promotion process by promotion guidelines that emphasize peer-reviewed publications and grant funding. This workshop will review the Brown University promotions guidelines for clinician educators and offer suggestions for enhancing scholarly work and national reputation in ways more congruent with the work that clinician-educators do in their daily activities. Strategies to be discussed include: 1) how to develop an area of expertise 2) how to develop a regional and national reputation 3) forms of scholarship outside of traditional peer-reviewed publications and 4) how to incorporate a scholarly approach to teaching. Suggestions for how to incorporate these non-traditional suggestions into a curriculum vitae format will be included.
Target Audience
This session is open to all faculty, staff and trainees.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
1. Explain the Brown University criteria for the promotion of clinician educators.
2. Identify strategies for developing novel medical education scholarship.
3. List ways that the traditional CV can highlight the scholarly teaching contributions of clinician educators.
Refreshments will be provided.
