Please join the Department of Emergency Medicine as we welcome Dr. Gita Pensa for a Grand Rounds presentation on the topic of medical malpractice. Dr. Pensa will provide essential information on medical malpractice—from how cases are identified, how they develop, to how the judicial process works. As instructive context, she will provide an interpretation the recent RaDonda Vaught Case.

After this session, the participants should be better able to:
- Identify the various parties who have interest in determining whether a medical malpractice case goes to trial or ends in settlement.
- Evaluate the perspectives of each of those parties and how case outcomes are ultimately decided.
- Understand the differences between civil and criminal litigation, and highlight lessons from a recent criminal trial for medical error.
