DPHB Teaching Workshop - Feedback: How to Give It Effectively and Receive It Graciously (No Matter How It’s Given)
New supervisors rarely receive formal training in providing feedback to trainees. This topic arises commonly in peer supervision groups and mentoring. Education on providing effective feedback has been requested by multiple junior supervisors and has been voiced to mentors and clinical leadership. Following a didactic presentation on the importance of feedback, barriers to providing feedback, and methods of delivering effective feedback, participants will have the opportunity to role-play a supervisor-trainee dyad in which the supervisor provides feedback, and receives commentary from their partner and trainers on their provision of feedback.
Target Audience
Rhode Island Psychiatrists & Psychologists.
Learning Objectives
- Describe various methods of giving feedback to trainees
- Recognize barriers to providing necessary feedback to trainees
