10/06/21: Sex & Gender: Preparing and Delivering Inclusive Content for Students
Studies show that medical education falls short of addressing the evidence-based health differences in regard to sex and gender. This workshop is a first step for medical educators interested in preparing and delivering inclusive content around sex and gender to their learners. Participants will review inclusive terminology, critically appraise the literature for issues in study design, analysis and result reporting, and discuss AMS faculty’s comfort level in teaching about sex and gender-related concepts. The workshop will introduce participants to resources on the intersection of sex and gender with clinical practice and medical education.
Target Audience
All faculty and residents are welcome to attend this live webinar.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Identify the various types of bias that exist in medical education content where sex as a biological variable and gender identity are concerned.
- Describe the impact of this bias on medical students’ education in short and long-term frameworks.
- Critically evaluate existing scientific literature in terms of appropriate and adequate consideration of sex and gender.
- Gain the insight necessary to modify the current educational content that faculty deliver to integrate inclusive teaching and learning.
- Access the national resources available in order to successfully integrate inclusivity and to remove bias in medical education.
