Master Clinician Series –Mind the Gap: Challenges Bridging the Divide in Care from Adolescence to Young Adulthood for Individuals on the Autism Spectrum

September 25, 2025 to September 27, 2025

Provided by The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University

In Collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior

This activity will be presented in person at Butler Hospital, Back of Ray Hall, 3:30-5:00 pm.
Pre-registration is required.

When patients with autism and developmental disability are nearing the transition out of child specific services,
there areoften gaps in providers’ knowledge of the types of services required and where to refer for services.
On the adult side, there is often discomfort in treating these patients who have previously been seen by pediatric
providers. This session will help folks understand the unique challenges faced by this age group with these
diagnoses, and identify their own knowledge gaps, and become familiar with community resources.

Target Audience

This activity is designated for physicians, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and social workers.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Describe the unique challenges faced by transitional age youth with autism and developmental disabilities.
  • Identify one’s own gaps in knowledge related to treating transitional age youth with autism and developmental disabilities.
  • Describe educational and vocational needs that transitional age youth with autism and developmental disabilities may have and List resources available locally to help meet the varied needs of transitional age youth with autism and developmental disabilities.
