Overview 

This virtual educational activity will provide both physicians and medical professionals an introduction to the transgender community, including how to provide culturally-sensitive care and use appropriate vocabulary to improve the patient-provider relationship and decrease healthcare disparities. Physicians and healthcare professionals will learn about the barriers members of the transgender community face when accessing healthcare, as well as strategies to recognize and decrease barriers to care.

Physicians, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, Social Workers, Medical Students, Dental Professionals, Residents & Fellows, CCRI Allied and Rehab Health Students, Faculty, Alumni, and Clinical Instructors.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this activity, the learner should be better able to: 

  • Provide culturally sensitive care in practice by using language that is respectful and avoiding terms that can be harmful or traumatic to transgender patients.
  • Provide more sensitive care to transgender patients due to an increased understanding of barriers transgender patients face in healthcare.
