In addition to COVID-19 updates, this session will consist of an update on the current significant population of Afghan evacuees in Rhode Island, who have been placed all over the state.  While Rhode Island’s refugees are receiving much of their primary care in three specialized clinics for refugees, it is important for providers across the state to understand the unique health needs of refugees and evacuees, as well as considerations for their own practices when treating patients who are refugees and evacuees, such as language interpretation and cultural considerations.  Ms. Fortier and Drs. Toll and Lewis will present about current refugees and evacuees in Rhode Island, including how and why families and individuals came to Rhode Island, addressing physical and mental health needs and personal strengths, including issues related to health inequities and marginalization.
