Emergency care providers must be aware of current research about the management of cardiac arrest among different patient populations. Dr. Perman is a recognized leader in this area who has published extensively on sex and gender differences in cardiac arrest care.

Sarah M. Perman, MD MS MSCE FAHA

Dr. Sarah Perman obtained her medical degree from Temple University and completed her emergency medicine residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Following residency, she completed a Resuscitation Research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Resuscitation Science supported by a NINDS T32 while also obtaining her master’s degree in clinical epidemiology from UPenn. Dr. Perman was an investigator in the Ludeman Center for Women’s Health Research at the University of Colorado and a member of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado from 2013-2023. She has recently moved back to the Northeast and is faculty at the Yale School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Perman was the first emergency medicine-trained researcher to become a Building Interdisciplinary Research Career in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) Scholar. She has received funding for her research from the National Institutes of Health and the Emergency Medicine Foundation.
Nationally, Dr. Perman is an active member of the American Heart Association and is the Chair of the AHA 3CPR Council, Chair of the Resuscitation Science Symposium, and a member of the Emergency Cardiovascular Care Science Subcommittee. Dr. Perman’s clinical interests are focused on post-cardiac arrest care and acute critical care in the emergency department. Her research is focused broadly on disparities in cardiac arrest outcomes, complex decision-making in post-cardiac arrest care, survivorship, and neuroprognostication for comatose survivors of cardiac arrest.
