Target Audience
This session is designed for Rhode Island physicians (primary care and specialists), psychologists, social workers, residents, fellows, medical students, and all other allied health professionals.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be better able to:
- Outline the evolution of FND diagnostic criteria and nomenclature and how these
changes influence diagnostic work-up and psychoeducation for pediatric patients,
families, and clinical teams. - Explain the importance of case conceptualization in treating pediatric FND, including the
roles of intrapersonal factors, family dynamics, and psychiatric comorbidities. - Describe the core components of Family-Based Integrated Care (FBIC) for FND,
including the roles of emotion identification, communication of underlying
emotions, and indicated psychopharmacologic interventions.
