Session Overview

In this session, Dr. Johnson will quantify racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in sleep across the lifespan. She will then discuss the root causes of health disparities. Drawing from empirical research, Dr. Johnson will discuss the relation between contextual factors and sleep health. She will conclude with discussing best practices for studying sleep disparities and intervention targets.

After participating in this activity, attendees should be better able to:

  • Describe the complex intersection of race and socio-economic status on sleep
  • Understand the root causes of sleep health disparities
  • Discuss the downstream effects of structural racism on shaping environments and sleep
