10/26/23 - Maximizing Your Mentoring Relationship: Skills for Success
THURSDAY, October 26
5:30-7:00pm
222 Richmond Street, Room 270
Refreshments will be provided
The skills required for effective mentoring are critical for the effectiveness of a mentor in guiding the mentee on a suitable career trajectory. Mentees, likewise, need skills to receive, understand, prioritize and act on opportunities for advancement toward their goals.
This 90-minute, in-person workshop will address the following
1) What is Mentoring?
2) What are the characteristics and behaviors of a good mentor?
3) What can or should the mentee do to ensure the partnership is productive and sustainable?
4) Interactive work/Breakout Groups to explore relevant scenarios informed by participant needs e.g.
- a. Mentee trying to find direction “I don’t know where to start” “I like EVERYTHING!” (goal-setting)
- b. Mentee seeking advice on whether to take on a new responsibility (risk/benefit analysis)
- c. Mentor concerned with lack of mentee focus after 6 years in the role (time for a reboot and focus/assessment)
Target Audience
This session is open to all faculty, staff and trainees.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
1. Identify evidenced based characteristics and behaviors of mentors and mentees that optimize the positive impact of this relationship for all involved.
