Learning Objectives

After this session, the participants should be better able to:

  1. Describe symptoms of patient agitation, etiologies for the development of behavioral symptoms in the emergency setting, and intersection with staff safety and workplace violence
  2. Apply systems science principles to develop potential interventions to minimize harm during agitation episodes
  3. Create strategies to improve teamwork/communication during behavioral emergencies using simulation and informatics technology
  4. Identify potential factors for disparities in agitation management and interventions to improve equity in behavioral emergency care
