“More Than Just the Talk: The Power of Racial Socialization in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Black Youth and Families”
Target Audience
This session is designed for Rhode Island physicians (primary care and specialists), psychologists, social workers, residents, fellows, medical students, and all other allied health professionals.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be better able to:
- Identify ways that interpersonal and racial stress and trauma impact Black youth development.
- Discuss the protective role of racial socialization on behavioral and mental health outcomes for Black youth.
- Describe research on barriers and facilitators to trauma treatment utilization for ethnic minority youth and families
- Understand the benefit of integrating racial socialization into psychoeducation and relaxation while delivering evidence-based treatment
