3/25/26 - Email on Your Terms: From Overload to Order (VIRTUAL)

March 25, 2026

Wednesday, March 25, 2026
6:30-7:30pm to be held ON ZOOM!

Overview

Email is a fact of professional life. A recent survey of over 2,000 office workers in the Harvard Business Review highlights challenges that email poses including: 1) unclear communication from their colleagues (both in the initial email ask and the response) 2) employees wasting hours each week on “poor or confusing digital communications 3) delays in email response resulting in missed deadlines, emails ignored and peer-based passive- aggressiveness. Poor email management has been shown to significantly impact employees, leading to burnout, increased stress, decreased productivity, and ultimately, lower job satisfaction.

This workshop session will review best practices for email communication beginning with how to frame an email “ask” and moving to how to send an effective response. Challenges such as tone, length, timeliness of response, and clarity will be addressed. By the end of the workshop participants will have developed “rules of the road” for the successful initiation and response to email communication to allow them to be “the boss of their email”. Additionally, strategies for developing institutional "rules of the road" will be presented to allow programs to develop institutional expectations for email management.

This session is open to all faculty, staff and trainees.
