Exhibit - Sex and Gender, Medical Research, and Our Community: Redefining Women's Health in Rhode Island
Current clinical practice is based on knowledge from literature that has been historically based on research in men with underrepresentation of women. Men and women are different in physiologic, anatomical, hormonal, behavioral and other ways that impact health and well-being. A good clinical practice would consider sex and gender in disease understanding, screening, and management. Sex differences start at the cellular level, which impact clinical presentation of disease, treatment management and pharmacodynamics, to medication / intervention adherence. Clinicians need to be aware of such differences in order to equalize the field and better the lives of women.
The Sex, Gender, Medical Research, and Our Community Summit is a regional collaboration dedicated to engaging thought leaders in research, education and clinical practice that impacts the health of women. Community leaders in health and medicine along with professional and non-profit organizational representatives who are interested in creating a network of health professionals to support and progress the integration of sex and gender differences in all aspects of health are for women are encouraged to attend. Opportunities to expand multi-disciplinary networks, receive valuable guidance from regional experts and obtain state of the art resources to advance scientific research and clinical care will be provided.
Target Audience
Community leaders in health and medicine along with professional and non-profit organizational representatives who are interested in creating a network of health professionals to support and progress the integration of sex and gender differences in all aspects of health care for women are encouraged to attend.
Learning Objectives
- Recognize the state of women's health in RI.
- Appraise the importance of incorporating sex and gender in health and wellbeing of the population.
- Describe the status of research in women's health.
- Discuss and review educational tracks in women's health.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations/substitutions must be made in writing to the Brown CME Office at least two weeks prior to the conference, no later than February 28, 2020. A $35.00 administrative fee will be charged for all refunds (no refunds for “no shows”). There will be no additional charge for substitutions. This conference is subject to change or cancellation
