Neuropalliative Care and Surrogacy Decision Making in Hispanic Communities
A Virtual Webinar accessible via Zoom
Sponsored by the Office of Belonging, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University
Program Description
Despite the increasing diversity of patient populations, many providers lack formal training in cultural competency, palliative care, and family-centered decision-making. These gaps can lead to misunderstandings, delays in care, and discord between medical teams and families, ultimately affecting patient outcomes and family satisfaction. This CME module aims to bridge this gap by equipping providers with evidence-based strategies to deliver culturally sensitive, patient-centered, and ethically sound care in end-of-life scenarios with significant neurological injury.
Target Audience
This webinar is designed for Rhode Island physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical students, residents and fellows.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity the learner will be better able to:
- Identify key cultural values and beliefs that influence end-of-life decision-making among Hispanic patients and families in the Neuroscience ICU.
- Develop culturally sensitive communication techniques to facilitate discussions about palliative care and end-of-life decisions.
