Quality written evaluations are essential for ongoing feedback and learning for medical students. Medical students, at Alpert Medical School and across the country, consistently report dissatisfaction with the quality of their evaluations. The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) standard 11 requires that medical schools strive to provide thoughtful and actionable feedback and evaluations.  This workshop, led by clerkship directors in the core rotations, seeks to address this need.

The workshop will start with an introduction to the AMS Nine Abilities framework and a review of how the standard clerkship-wide evaluation form follows the Nine Abilities.

Then, participants will work together in small groups or think-pair-share groups to identify directly observable sub-abilities applicable to their type of work with students.

Participants will then create a personalized, standardized evaluation template to utilize for evaluation completion. We will review examples of clerkship evaluation comments and identify best practices to continue and common pitfalls to avoid.

Attendance in-person is encouraged; however, there is also an option to livestream the workshop. If you are not able to attend live, the program will be recorded and available for asynchronous viewing.

Target Audience

This session is open to all faculty, staff and trainees.
