Program Description

Forming one’s professional identity is more difficult if the profession she is entering is not diverse and/or includes few role models and mentors with similar backgrounds (Hadden, 2019). Furthermore, gaps in expectations – from patients, peers, trainees, and supervisors – can make day-to-day experiences more challenging due to micro-aggressions, intended and unconscious bias, and systemic structures that fail to account for the diversity in the modern healthcare and scientific workforce. On the other hand, success in academic leadership and academic advancement can be enhanced by developing self-awareness and retaining authenticity. Furthermore, role-modeling these skills for others, can positively impact the work and training environment and accelerate cultural change that promotes diversity and innovation (Lachance, 2015).

Method of Participation and How to Receive CME Credit

There are no fees for participating in and receiving credit for this activity.

• Review the activity objectives, faculty information, and CME information prior to participating in the activity.
• View the CME presentations
• Complete the CME activity evaluation at the conclusion of the activity in order to receive a credit certificate.
