In this session we will review 7 core skills that enhance the effectiveness of women faculty, highlighting common pitfalls in gender based communication and behavior that sometimes work to sabotage womens' effectiveness in the work setting. The 7 behaviors include:
- Saying No
- Find and Manage Mentors
- Delegation
- Conflict Resolution
- Sit at the Table
- Mastering the Rituals of Gender-Based Communication
- Define and Optimize Your Professional Presence
Workshop session activities will include didactic, large group discussion, and small group discussion. This session will be important for women faculty, and those who mentor, support, and sponsor women faculty.
Target Audience
This session is open to all faculty, staff and trainees.
Learning Objectives
After completing this course, the learner should be better able to:
1) Identify conversational rituals that impede successful negotiation
2) Describe successful strategies for managing difficult conversations
3) Learn how to manage time by strategizing when and how to say no (and yes!)
This event will be held at Alpert Medical School (222 Richmond Street Providence, RI) in room 275. Refreshments will be provided.
