Gender Affirming Mental Health Treatment Workshop
All members of behavioral health teams may require ongoing training in gender affirming care. Individual members of behavioral health teams may have resistance to gender affirming care if they have more traditional views of gender identity. Given increasing awareness and disclosure of gender diversity in behavioral health settings, this session will provide an overview of mental health disparities among transgender and gender diverse patients and help mental health practitioners develop skills to provide gender affirming care.
This will be a virtual workshop held via Zoom and is offered from the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. Link to follow upon registration.
Target Audience
Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Psychologists, and Social Workers.
Learning Objectives
- Describe mental health disparities among transgender and gender diverse patients
- Develop skills to complete an affirming, trauma-informed assessment of gender related history and goals for transgender and gender diverse patients.
- Increase knowledge, awareness, and strategies to provide culturally humble gender-affirming behavioral health care that incorporates minority stress theory for transgender and gender diverse patients
