Practicing Clinical Sexual Medicine Part 2: Diagnostic Considerations and Evidence-based Treatment Modalities

Providence, RI US
September 14, 2026

Provided by The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University

In Collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior

This activity will be live in-person only from 3:00-5:00 pm.
Pre-registration is required.

This activity will be of particular benefit to psychiatrists and psychologists teaching within DPHB, as well as all DPHB trainees. Training in clinical sexual medicine is rare, and assessment and treatment of these issues are frequently bypassed due to discomfort or inadequate training with clinical sexual content. This workshop offers specific assessment tools, updates to diagnostics, and summary of common evidence-based treatments. Overall, these workshops will help facilitate a brief or comprehensive sexual health history and assessment of sexual problems, understanding of diagnostics within the clinical sexual medicine, and increase awareness of evidence-based sexual health treatment modalities to facilitate ease, comfort, and competency among practitioners.

Target Audience

This activity is designated for psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Review diagnostics within clinical sexual medicine from a behavioral health perspective and when to refer to other clinical sexual medicine specialists (pelvic floor physical therapy, psychiatry, urology, gynecology, etc.).
  • Recognize significant changes to diagnostics in clinical sexual medicine across time, and how this has affected the politics and delivery of care within the field.
  • State specific evidence-based behavioral sexual medicine treatment modalities for some of the more common sexual problems that individuals face across the lifespan.
