Toward a Culturally Responsive Supervision ~ 03/02/2023

This virtual program will be held on March 2, 2023,  9:00 - 10:30 am 

The presentation will begin with a brief review of the racial identity model and racial identity social interaction model. The focus of the discussion will be on growth fostering supervision approaches, processing difficult conversations in supervision cross- and intra- racially, and culturally responsive repair after rupture in supervision. Specifically, the presentation will help develop faculty and trainees’ ability to engage with one another in supervision in a manner that is informed by self-reflection, the desire for mutuality, and cultural humility. Further, the presentation will also provide strategies to help faculty and trainees navigate racially and culturally salient supervisory experiences.  

Target Audience

The proposed activity will be of particular benefit to psychiatrists and psychologists in DPHB.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this workshop, the learner should be better able to: 

  • Discuss racial identity theories and the social interaction model

  • Engage with one another in supervision in a manner that is informed by self-reflection, the desire for mutuality, and cultural humility

  • Demonstrate strategies for routine to difficult cross- and intra-racial supervision conversations.
