11.17.22 OWIMS Book Club (Session II- Zoom option): Inferior

Providence, RI US
November 17, 2022

This event will take place live, virtual via Zoom

Overview

For centuries, humanity has relied on the scientific community to tell the objective truth about the world around us. But when it comes to women’s health and well-being, “scientific” truths have been misleading and dangerous. In her book, Inferior, science journalist Angela Saini, paints a picture of how deeply sexist notions have been woven into the fabric of biomedical research, how they are still being perpetuated within the scientific community, and how new research can help us address gender-related health disparities.

Target Audience

This session is open to all faculty, staff and trainees.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this event, learners should be better able to:

1. Recognize the foundations of assumptions about females’ biological inferiority to males.

2. Describe the impact of gender bias on health and well-being outcomes in women.

3. Discuss how scientists are presently exploring gender through a more modern scope and revisiting past landmark studies that have previously left society and medicine ill-informed.
