Overview

Mental health conditions are common among healthcare workers, and when left untreated, can lead to adverse patient outcomes, burnout, and even suicide among those suffering from these disorders. In this session, panelists will present data regarding the growing prevalence of alcohol use disorders among healthcare workers, with a focus on women working in clinical settings. Barriers to seeking diagnosis and treatment will be discussed, and participants will be introduced to resources for supporting women who need treatment, as well as strategies to prevent the development of alcohol use disorders among healthcare workers and trainees.

Target Audience

This session is open to all faculty, staff and trainees. 

Learning Objectives

After participating in this event, learners should be better able to: 

  • Report the prevalence of alcohol use disorders among healthcare professionals, particularly those who identify as women
  • Describe the unique ways that alcohol use disorders affect women 
  • Discuss resources available to healthcare workers who are struggling with alcohol use and other mental health conditions
  • Identify opportunities for prevention of unidentified and untreated mental health conditions among professionals working in high stress healthcare settings
