12.12.23 OWIMS Professional Development Series: REMOVING YOUR BLINDFOLD: Personal Branding as a Critical Career Management Strategy
Please join Office of Women in Medicine & Science for a live in person event.
This event will take place live, in person at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University
Overview
Scientists and academic clinicians may believe that their credentials are sufficient for communicating their knowledge and skills. Indeed, historically the culture of science and medicine has negatively judged those who engage with the media and the public, labeling them as self-promoting or grandstanding. In this age of science disinformation, however, it is critical that health care and scientific leaders develop the skills to communicate about their work and recognize how cultivating their personal brand can highlight their unique abilities and expertise. Devoting time and attention to developing your personal brand can increase your opportunities for collaboration, allow you to serve as a role model for junior colleagues in your field, and prevent career dissatisfaction. In this lecture, Hume Johnson, PhD, Associate Professor of Communication, Roger Williams University, will introduce the principles of personal branding and discuss steps attendees can take to discover and define their personal brands.
