1/22/24 - Microlearning: Creating Bite-sized Moments of Meaningful Teaching and Learning

This interactive workshop will explore the role of microlearning in the future of medical education and continuing professional development.  In the first half of the workshop, participants will examine the definitions of microlearning, microteaching, and microassessment, using varied examples and with reference to the literature.  Benefits as well as limitations of microlearning’s impact on lifelong learning and patient care will be discussed.  In the second half of the workshop, participants will analyze practical considerations for creating and curating successful microlearning opportunities as educators and put these skills into practice.  Incorporation of microlearning into didactic teaching, inpatient settings, and outpatient clinic will be discussed. 

 

Target Audience

This session is open to all faculty, staff and trainees. 

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

1. Identify microlearning tools and understand the integration of technology and principles of reduced cognitive load.

2. Evaluate the benefits and limitations of microlearning in medical education and analyze its impact on lifelong learning, teaching, and patient care.

3. Apply knowledge of microlearning to create or curate meaningful content for use in clinical teaching.
