2.27.25 OWIMS Professional Development Series | What Adoption Can Teach the World: A Personal Journey Toward Fairness, Inclusion, and Belonging in Healthcare

Providence, RI US
February 27, 2025
Overview

As a transracially adopted person, April Dinwoodie lives both the joys of being enfolded into a family filled with love and the complexities of adoption, including the search for identity, the impact of family separation, the nuances of belonging across race, culture, and family. In this talk, April will share her personal journey and use it as a lens to explore broader systemic opportunities in healthcare. Through a combination of lived experiences and research-based insights, April will highlight how adoption can teach the world about the importance of fairness, inclusion, and belonging in patient care. This presentation will also touch on the experiences of mothers of origin, recognizing the need for compassionate healthcare for the extended family of adoption.
