Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Explain the purpose and role of the State Lab in the collection, handling, reporting, and storing of forensic evidence and its role in the investigation of sexual assault
- Identify the purpose of forensic testing in a sexual assault investigation, and the types of specimens that can be evaluated by forensic techniques at the State Laboratory.
- Describe the methods for evidence collection and preservation during the medical exam that are critical to maintaining the quality of forensic analyses
- Identify the process of comparing forensic evidence with federal genetic databases that are available to Law Enforcement for investigations of crimes
- Explain the barriers to the performance of forensic testing and the limits of testing
