2022 - 2023 This is the Way to Wellness: A New Monthly Faculty Professional Development Series

“This is the Way to Wellness” is a new, monthly faculty wellness professional development series intended to enhance campus well-being by sparking conversations on topics such as positive psychology, wellness-based teaching practices, and the science of happiness. Each session will be facilitated by Kelly D. Holder, PhD, and will include a brief introduction to a foundational concept followed by facilitated discussion amongst faculty peers. 

By participating in each session, participants will be able to better understand foundational concepts in positive psychology and well-being theory, which may then be applied personally and professionally. Explore the relationship between human connection and well-being through experiential peer mentorship. 

The topics for these sessions will include: 

  • Introduction to Positive Psychology & PERMA - The 5 Essential Elements of Well-Being (October 7)
  • Cultivating a Growth Mindset (November 4)
  • The Impact of Social Media on Well-Being (December 2)
  • Three Steps to Self-Compassion (February 3)
  • Flow (March 3)
  • Fostering an Inclusive Learning Environment (April 14)
  • The Art of Saying No (May 5)
  •  Meaning Making (June 2)

Please note that this course is designed to be engaging for all participants. Attendees are encouraged to turn on their cameras and actively participate in the program.

Participants do not need to attend all sessions to benefit from the program - come to one or come to all!

Learning Objectives

After participation, the learner should be better able to:

  • Outline foundational concepts in positive psychology and well-being theory.
  • Apply principles of well-being theory personally and professionally.
  • Describe the relationship between human connection and well-being through experiential peer mentorship.
