Module 8 - Advocacy, Victim’s Experience, and Trauma Informed Care

Module 8 includes two parts: 

Part 1 of the module will review advocacy: What are the various resources available to a sexual assault survivor, and how should you determine which resources to offer the patient?

Part 2 of the module will review: Why is trauma-informed care important, and how does practicing trauma-informed care impact a victim's experience?

The estimated time to complete Module 8 is 60 minutes.

At the conclusion of this module (module 8) you will be able to claim credit for completion of the full curriculum

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  1. Name several common resources available to patients and ways to access them
  2. Identify organizations in Rhode Island that support sexual assault survivors, and which patient population each organization serves
  3. Describe the role of in-person advocates and the process of accessing an advocate from the acute setting
  4. List some common reactions to trauma, and variations in response
  5. Describe three specific examples of ways to make care in the ED more trauma-informed
  6. Recall some common themes of what matters to victims during their medical visits
